A group of psychologists and mental health professionals from diverse marginalized communities developed the Culturally Informed Trauma and Grief Recovery Toolkit to address the unique challenges faced by individuals who experience multiple forms of oppression. Recognizing the significant burdens of trauma and grief, the toolkit aims to build upon the inherent resourcefulness, resilience, and strength within these communities.
The toolkit is designed for marginalized individuals, including Black, Indigenous, and people of color; members of the LGBT+ community; individuals from lower-income backgrounds; immigrants; ciswomen; older adults; religious individuals (e.g., Hindu, Muslim, Christian); and people with disabilities. Its primary purpose is to educate, share resources, and affirm the lived experiences of those who have faced trauma and loss. In addition to individual use, the toolkit is intended to facilitate community dialogue and healing, empowering communities to mobilize their strengths and cultural practices to heal, resist, and thrive in the face of discrimination. Therapists are also encouraged to share the toolkit with their clients.
The toolkit includes two-page written documents authored by diverse psychologists from marginalized backgrounds and five-minute videos created by members of the psychology community. Additionally, a resource page is available for those seeking further information on the topics covered in the toolkit.
