This issue brief by the The National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) highlights key issues that impact risks for HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and viral hepatitis among Native gay men and Two Spirit people. It presents recommendations for state and local health departments to effectively collaborate with Tribal communities, Native agencies and Native gay men and Two Spirit people to address these risks. The issue brief also provides case studies of programs implemented by state departments across the U.S. The recommendations are:

- Include Native Gay Men and Two Spirit People in HIV/AIDS Planning Groups and Councils
- Support Native Gay and Two Spirit People’s Organizations and Communities
- Offer Culturally-Appropriate Services
- Break Down Bureaucratic Silos
- Build Public Health Capacity to Work Effectively with Native Gay Men and Two Spirit People and Connect with Tribal Leaders
- Implement Strategies In Social Networks
- Use New Tools to Effectively Communicate the Impact on Native Gay Men and Two Spirit People
