The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA), Office of Behavioral Health Equity (OBHE) held the “Connecting the Dots: Unifying Service Silos to Promote a More Equitable System of Care” webinar on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm EDT.
This informative panel discussed highlighted individuals’ challenges in navigating disconnected systems and explored strategies for policymakers to bridge care gaps and eliminate barriers to services.
Researchers have been studying the overdose epidemic in New York State since 2017. They have surveyed about 300 people from rural, urban, and suburban communities on the front lines. These include local officials, law enforcement, health and other service providers, and people who used drugs and their families. Attendees heard from them and other experts about their experiences and efforts to enhance service access.
During this webinar, participants learned:
- An overview of the benefits and burdens of services from the perspective of people who know it best
- Understand the relationship between burdens, benefits, and equity in recovery and support services
- Offer examples of successful and equitable services
- Highlights of possible policy solutions.
