MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership has developed the National Mentoring Month Toolkit, an online resource to help local mentoring programs promote their activities during the month-long observance of National Mentoring Month. The toolkit includes materials for social media, media outreach, public outreach and advocacy, and corporate engagement.
Mentoring is a critical component in young people’s lives, helping them make the decisions and connections that lead to improved opportunities. A mentor empowers young people to make smart choices that put them on a path to making better life decisions.
According to the National Mentoring Partnership, at-risk youth who participate in mentorship programs are:
52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school
55% more likely to be enrolled in college
46% less likely than their peers to start using drugs
81% more likely to report participating regularly in sports or extracurricular activities
78% more likely to volunteer regularly in their communities
130% more than twice as likely to say that they held a leadership position in a club or sports team
90% respondents who had a mentor said they are now interested in becoming members
Population of Focus: At-risk Youth
