Exercise Solution for Mental Health

Objective: To promote regular exercise as a viable coping mechanism for mental illness and general mental health.

Description: The Exercise Solution consists of regular exercise, proper nutrition and expressive writing all working together to meet the goals of each individual client, as he or she works to achieve and maintain good mental health. Never Give Up Fitness travels and implements its programs at the client’s location, or at a location near the client, such as at a local park. The Exercise Solution for Mental Health demonstrates how exercise, on a regular basis, can help clients cope with mental health needs, such as clinical depression and obsessive compulsive disorder.

Population of Focus: Adolescents, Adults, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Children, Elderly, Hispanic or Latino, Military/Veterans/Military families, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Transition aged, White, Women

Setting: Parks & recreation, Suburban, Urban

Level of Intervention: Community, Family, Individual

Resources/Qualifications Needed: Certified Personal Trainer certification, Certified Nutritionist certification, and CPR and First Aid certification. Additionally, mental health certifications, such as ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is highly recommended.
